The enhanced greenhouse effect can be slowed down by following two guidelines:
- 1. Increase sinks and
- 2. Decrease sources of greenhouse gases.
A sink is a process which removes greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. For example: growing a tree where one did not previously exist provides a sinkfor carbon dioxide, because the tree "extracts" carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. A source is a place or
activity from which greenhouse gases are emitted. This can be a process such as coal burning or a location such as cultivated fields. We at Mason have taken a strong stance on being part of the process to reduce the greenhouse effect.
We have undertaken to:
- Use local suppliers to reduce the transportation of office furniture
- Work with all suppliers to develop a range of offic furniture that is made from recycled or environmentally-friendly materials
- Understand the carbon footprint on all office furni ture that we supply and work to reduce this footprint
- Educate our staff to ensure that they reduce their own person carbon footprints
- Encourage clients to buy products that have a lower carbon footprint than others
- Offset our carbon footprint as far as possible with carbon reducing activities such as planting trees
